Tommaso Pobega is back in the matchday squad after a long-term injury and he stressed how important it is for AC Milan to end the season in the best possible way.

Pobega sustained his injury during the 3-0 win against Monza at San Siro in December when he played on the left of a three-man defence but lasted less than 30 minutes before pulling up with a painful looking hip problem.

It was then confirmed after a scan that he had injured his left rectus femoris tendon, and the club then announced that he had undergone surgery which took place in Finland through a specialist.

It was estimated at the time that the Milan academy product would require four months to recover due to the nature of the problem and the length of the rehabilitation necessary, but he is now back.

Pobega spoke on Milan TV in the build-up to the game at San Siro tonight, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How are you feeling?

“I’m very happy to be back, I feel good physically and mentally and I wanted to go back to training and playing with the team. It’s an important step for me, I’m well and I’m happy.”

How important is it to finish the season well?

“We have always been a strong and focused group, it is normal to have ups and downs during a season but we have always been on top of things. We want to show that we are strong and win these last games.”
