Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton has been punched in the face outside a nightclub.
The 29-year-old midfielder was involved in a fight with two men in the northern English city of Liverpool early Monday.
Merseyside Police says officers responded to ''reports of an altercation'' at 5.30 a.m.
Police said that ''on arrival officers found a 29-year-old man who had sustained injuries to his face. The man left the scene voluntarily.''
Two men from Liverpool were arrested at the scene for a public order offense.
Barton served 77 days in jail in 2008 after a street fight in Liverpool.
The player is suspended for the first 12 matches of next season from August for violent conduct during the Premier League finale at Manchester City.
