Tottenham have joined the auction for €25m-rated defender this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna at the end of the season.

According to Tuttosport, they have now joined the action for the 21-year-old central defender and they will face competition from clubs like AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli and Bayer Leverkusen.

The Italian outfit are holding out for a fee of around €25 million and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham are ready to pay up. They have conceded quite a few goals in the recent outings and it is clear that they need defensive reinforcements.

Signing another quality central defender should be a top priority for them and the Italian would be a quality long-term investment. He is highly rated across Europe and Calafiori could develop into a key player for Tottenham.

He is capable of operating as the central defender as well as a fullback. His versatility will be an added bonus. The 21-year-old is likely to improve with coaching and experience and the €25 million investment could look like a major bargain in the long run.

Calafiori prefers a move to Juventus out of the clubs linked. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can convince him to move to London instead. A move to the Premier League can be quite tempting for most players. It would be a major step up in his career and he would get to test himself against the best attackers in the world.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have an exciting project as well and they are currently pushing for Champions League qualification. They could be an attractive destination for most players this summer. Ange Postecoglou could help the talented young Italian defender develop further and fulfil his tremendous potential.
