WCHA Power Rankings: Week 20

Here is the week 20 WCHA Power Rankings. This season, I have been doing the WCHA Power Rankings with Taylor Seibel, who is a contributor for The Hockey Writers Combine. 1.  Saint Cloud State – (19-12-1, WCHA 16-7-1) – This past weekend, the Huskies split (3-4 L – 5-2 W) their weekend series with the Colorado College Tigers in Colorado Springs. This weekend, the Huskies...

Lucic upset with Weaver cross check - check from behind

Listen to these announcers from the Florida Panthers, the Bruins forward Milan Lucic wold have been better off if he had just challenged Mike Weaver to a fight, than react this way. It was a blown call by the on ice officials. Weaver just got cross-checked by Lucic. Appropriately heading to the box. 4 minute power play for the #FlaPanthers — Florida Panthers (@FlaPanthers...

Zdeno Chara scores an awesome spin-o-rama goal

Wow!!! For a big man the Boston Bruins defensman Zdeno Chara moves pretty well. The Florida Panthers center Jonathan Huberdeau, not so much.

Nice goal by Anthony Walsh...

(Video) UND takes DU to the Wood Shed 6-1

Great effort by the guys in Green and White. I will let the video do the talking.  Not a good weekend by the guys wearing the stripes, I thought that Scott Bokal and Brian Thul were absolutely brutal. After further review, it was more Scott Bokal that was the "weak link" in that officiating crew. I made a comment on the UND game chat that after UND went up 3...

DU game 1: Time for RW77 to Ruffle Some Feathers

I love being the most controversial writer for this blog after I was so wrong about the outdoor game (despite MANY MANY MANY members of the media and others saying I was right, but who cares about that) so it is time that I ruffle more feathers. The Game Itself I hate to say it, but the game was entertaining.  I hate to say it because my team lost.  Dave Hakstol said that...

(Video) Brendan O'Donnell goal that was waved off.

You have to feel for UND forward Brendan O'Donnell. This is about as close as it gets, looks like Mitch MacMillan on the left wing, was just a step ahead. Wow!!! So, the goalies best friend is the linesman? None-the-less, close call at the blue line. I would be love to see the boys in "Green and White" hang a six spot on this goalie tonight. Luck does run out for goalies...

(Video) DU downs UND 5-4

I don't think anyone is very happy with tonight's results, but it's also not time to panic either. UND has lost 4 games in the last 18 so, I don't think it's time to pull the pin yet. After the game, UND head coach Dave Hakstol didn't seem all that pleased with his team's effort. Basically he said they played a sloppy game. " I thought we were...

Oilers' Hall suspended two games for kneeing

Personally, I would have like to have seen Hall suspended for three or four games. Oh well. Justice has been served. I also don't believe the logic that you can't hit someone in the open ice, going forward. Just don't lead with your knee. In my opinion, this was a deliberate attempt by Hall to hurt Cal Clutterbuck. Clutterbuck didn't even touch the puck, go back...

Oilers' Taylor Hall faces hearing for dirty hit on Clutterbuck

Let’s see if the league has two sets of rules again, one set of rules for super stars and one set of rules for goons and third and fourth line players. Taylor Hall might be a super star, but if a star starts racking up questionable and dirty hits, his actions will start catching up with him. Hall is also starting to develop a history with the Wild players as he also was also...

Taylor Hal cheap shot on Cal Clutterbuck

First off, this is a text book knee-on-knee hit, it's a bush league hit, it's dirty and it deserves a suspension. I do not care that Taylor Hall is a super star. I also, find it hilarious that Edmonton Oilers fans are defending this hit on twitter tonight. Second; would the NHL referees, please stop rescuing the players that do hits on the ice. Let the players have some...

Joe Finley vs. Brandon Prust

Wow! Big Joe Finley is becoming a much better fighter and not leading with his chin any more as he did in his first professional fight. Actually, I would say that Finley did pretty well in this fight. Brandon Prust was in 20 fights last season and has been in 6 already this season, so I tip my hat to the former fighting Sioux defenseman Joe Finley. Related articles Brandon...

What a hit by former Northern Michigan Wildcat and current Avalanche forward Mark Olver on Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko. From the looks of it, it appears that Tarasenko is knocked a little woozy. There was no penalty called on the play.

NHL goes light on Jannik Hansen

I am tired of watching the NHL Department of Player Safety go light on players that should be suspended for multiple games, this was a situation, that I believe warranted a 2-3 games suspension. By going light on Jannik Hansen you pretty much guaranteeing he's going to be a marked man in the next game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks. In summary, there...

Jannik Hansen hit to the head of Marian Hossa

During last night's game, Vancouver Canuck forward Jannik Hansen hit Chicago Blackhawk forward Marian Hossa's in the head  with this dirty hit. The Canucks Ryan Kesler show us how to dive and then get a penalty

Diving is ruining the game of hockey, on all levels and there is no excuse for it. Punish the offending players and it will evaporate from the game of hockey, almost over night. Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler is dead to me, there is no excuse for the way he plays the game of hockey, while he might be a great young American forward, he's a fraud. Kesler is no better...

DU and UND to renew the feud this weekend

I guess it's time to get this thread going. This week, UND visits their old buddies the Denver Pioneers and I am sure we will see some good action on the ice. Probably see a dust up or two and maybe a dance on the dancer by Denver's 5'2" head coach George Gwozdecky. I mean, why not also invite Todd Anderson to ref both games as well and the weekend will be complete...
