Robert Griffin III joined Twitter today and attracted 5x the followers in an hour that it took us two years to accumulate, probably because he’s RGIII* and we’re an underground regional sports blog. Anyway, here’s his first tweet, which inspired the above illustration from @matthewbrown:
Well… My name is Robert Griffin III and yes I have finally joined the renowned phenomenon...
It does not appear that there is interesting about this, at least as it pertains to your Washington Redskins, but, hey, NEW NIKE NFL UNIFORMS.
“Can’t say I do” was pretty great, but I like this one even better. When asked if spending $10,000 on lottery tickets was wise, Chris Singleton said, “Either that or blow it in the club.” Because those are the only two options, you see. [Wiz Insider]

Of course they did (via @xmasape):
In a related story, most of those teams didn’t made the playoffs last season.
Prompted by our post about Vince Coleman’s visit to Redskins minicamp, Williams World News unearthed the Wikipedia page of ex-Skins P Jeff Hayes, and it’s a doozy.
Rather than list all of the craziness contained therein, let’s just excerpt the Wikipedia entry in full:

Caps Correspondent Brad Parker returns after a wild and crazy night.
1. Chimmer got ejected in the 1st period for a questionable hit.
2. While killing off the five-minute major, starting goalie Tomas Vokoun re-aggravated his lower body injury and left the game.
3. Michal Neuvirth entered the game and Braden Holtby left the press box and went to the locker room just in case.
As you know by now, unless you tuned out sometime in 2008, the Wizards have the second-worst record in the NBA. This is because they are the dregs, you see.
But with great losing comes great draft positioning, which hasn’t meant a whole hell of a lot for the Wiz these past few years. In 2009, it meant trading the No. 5/Ricky Rubio pick for Randy Foye and Mike Miller. In ‘10...
If you read us then you also read the D.C. Sports Bog, so it’s of interest when, after years of going stag, Agent Steinz finally adds a dance partner. She’s Sarah Kogod, who you may know, and she already scored a nice little scoop for the Post. She was kind enough to answer our questions too.

I was looking through old baseball cards recently, because that is something I like to do, and stumbled up on this American beauty:
Curious about exactly how many hundreds of stolen bases Vince Coleman had in 1986, I flipped it over only to discover “Vince attended NFL Redskins’ [sic] mini-camp in 1982″:
Wait, what? Then I said, to myself, Internet don’t fail me now, and...
If you’re on Twitter and/or reading Burgundy Blog, you probably saw this already, but if not, behold:
That there’s the creation of Redskins-loving Piketoon.com (via Burgundy Blog), and it’s awesome. If Super RG3 doesn’t band together with Strasburg, Ovie and John Wall to form an Avengers-type supergroup, it’ll be a sad day in comic book land.
Since Nats Park opened our preferred viewing experience has always been the Red Loft. It’s there you can hang out in an outdoor bar while overlooking a MLB game and also watching other sports on TV, even if the TVs are totally ****** … and all for the price of a nosebleed!

The NFL released the complete, official draft order today. The Skins gained no compensatory picks, so nothing really changed for them, aside from now holding the second overall pick, for real, for real:
No. 2 overall (1st round), via St. Louis
No. 69 overall (3rd round)
No. 102 overall (4th round)
No. 109 overall (4th round), via Oakland
No. 141 (5th round)
No. 173 (6th round)...
We’ve only posted about lacrosse to make fun of it, but it’s a little-known fact that brother Beef Mottram actually played mad sweet lax in high school and has coached youth lacrosse too. He owns a stick and everything.
So I naturally turned to him after seeing the fight video from Saturday’s Maryland-UNC game (alternate video). His expert opinion:

I think I’d heard that Joe Gibbs once lost a bet to mohawked-wonder Alvin Walton that forced him to shave his own hair into a mohawk, but I’d never seen proof of it. Fatpickled changed that for me this morning by posting the following clip from Pittsburgh’s CBS affiliate following Super Bowl XXII, which is just fantastic. Enjoy “the magic of television” circa 1988.
I couldn’t stop cracking up during this RG3 school project blooper reel (unearthed by @HogsHaven), and neither could RG3, especially when saying “Gutzon Borglum” (as noted by @ChrisMottram).
