The Nats Turned Kind of Blue

Not only were the Nats wearing beautiful Grays throwbacks tonight in Milwaukee, but MASN’s broadcast somehow turned them blue for some period of time. Hit the link to learn more at the Bog, but I just had to share here for posterity. The Nats won, BTW, and now have a .600 record through 100 games. Jordan Zimmermann’s ERA is also down to 2.28, because he’s a hoss, in any color.

Adam Jones Home Run Sparks Dime Time In Birdland

One of my favorite sayings in our house is “dime time,” which means somebody’s ass crack is showing. With 1- and 3-year-olds running around, it’s dime time pretty much all the time. Anyway, watch this clip, not only for the Adam Jones laser beam but also for the bucket hat-wearing O’s fan showing you what time it is (better video over at Deadspin, if you dare). Jones...

Dylan Bundy’s Curveball Curves

Hell of a week for Dylan Bundy. First Sports Illustrated gives him the Tom Verducci treatment. Then it was reported that the O’s plan on moving him to Double-A at 19, just one year out of high school. And now this video of his epic curveball is making the rounds (via The Big Lead). Enjoy it at the 50-second mark, and look forward to it, O’s fans. It may be bending in Baltimore...

Redskins Hat Photobombs Adorable USA Basketball Pic

That would be No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis rocking the Burgundy & Gold during USA Basketball’s team sleepover/flight (via BuzzFeed). As Bog notes, this isn’t the first time Davis has worn the hat. But why is he wearing it? Or, who cares? Still, cute pic, guys. The photographer was Kevin Love, who also just shared Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony in berets. Kevin Love is loved.

Philly gives Cole Hamels a six-year, $144 million deal, meaning he gets the second-biggest contract for a pitcher ever and gets to go at Bryce Harper and the Nats through 2018. It also means the Phillies have $357 committed to four players over the next six years. [Daily Pitch] Nats win fourth straight as Gio throws a gem. [WaPo] Davey Johnson is limiting starters’ innings. Pump Your Brakes, Nats Fans

It’s easy to see why Natitude ignition is so rampant these days. After seven years of futility, especially the rock bottom years of 2006-10, the first-place Nats have the NL’s best record and are 4.5 games ahead of Atlanta in the NL East. It’s only July 24th, but my favorite Nats blog is writing things like, “Likely scenarios are all pointing to the Nats as NL East Champs...

The 1991 Redskins Were Basically The Best Team Ever, Says Math

I’m a longtime fan of the Football Outsiders gang and am just ripping through their 2012 Almanac, so it’s with great joy that I present to you their latest finding: With the official unveiling of the 1991 DVOA [Defense-adjusted Value Over Average] ratings, the Redskins pass the 2007 Patriots as the highest-rated team in DVOA history. Washington may have been the most well-rounded...

You may recall Redskins left tackle/noted marijuana enthusiast Trent Williams telling the D.C. Sports Bog that he got a a gorilla tattoo on his back. On Lannan Replacing Strasburg

One of my favorite baseball happenings of 2012 occurred yesterday, when John Lannan returned from minor-league exile to stop the Nats’ two-game skid and extend their NL East lead to 2.5 games. It was a big game, as far as July goes, both for the team and the man, who was demoted this spring in favor of Ross Detwiler and Chien-Ming Wang after being the rotation’s bedrock through...

WAR Leaders: Top 10 Nats Of ‘12

It’s been said many times many ways, but the Nats are a first-place team thanks to their pitching and … not much else. I haven’t seen it said this way, though: Of baseball’s top 80 players, as ranked by Wins Above Replacement (WAR), only one is a National. That’s hard to do while you also have the best record in the National League. The Nats are doing it, though, on the...

Robert Griffin III and the Skins made it official via Twitter this morning that their first round pick is now part of the team, signing a four-year deal worth $21.1 million, all guaranteed. Sadly, it doesn’t include bull riding. Nationals Park is not one of the best craft beer parks in Major League Baseball. The good news? It’s not that far from being one. The stadium certainly has...
