After the first round of Davis Cup action over the weekend, things are beginning to take shape and as usual we find the top countries making it to the next stage of the competition.
Spain easily dispatched Kazakhstan 5-0 at the Palacio Municipal de los Deportes, Oviedo in an indoor encounter on a clay court.
Juan Carlos Ferrero defeated Mikhail Kukushkin 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(2) 4-6 6-4 while Nicolas Almagro recorded Spain’s second victory over Andrey Golubev 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
From then on it was Spain cruising to the next stage with Marcel Granollers/Marc Lopez and Nicolas Almagro increasing Spain’s tally to 4 by winning 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 and 6,3, 6-4 against Evgeny Korolev/Yuriy Schukin and Evgeny Korolev respectively.
Marcel Granollers again added to Spain’s victories by beating Andrey Golubev 6-3 6-7(2), 6-3, the second loss to Golubev in the series.
