KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Centerfielder Ryan Stephens drove in the game-winning run and Daniel Palo struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th to lift Middle Tennessee to a 5-4 extra-inning victory over the Tennessee Volunteers on Tuesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Blue Raiders hand the Vols their first loss of the season, while MT picks up its first victory at UT since 1994.
After drawing a one-out walk in the bottom of the 11th inning, senior Chris Pierce took advantage of three consecutive wild pitches to score the game-winning run as Tennessee defeated Seton Hall, 3-2, to claim its sixth straight victory to open the 2012 season on Saturday afternoon at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Tennessee made another late-inning comeback, scoring two runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings, but Middle Tennessee State answered with a run in the 10th to hand the Vols their first loss of the season, 5-4 in the final contest of an eight-game homestand at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
