In other matches world No.60 Sorana Cirstea (ROU) upset 2011 finalist Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) in three sets 2-6 6-3 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals. Joining her in the third round will be 2007 champion Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) who defeated Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL) 6-3 6-2, No. 4 seed Angelique Kerber (GER) beat Sara Errani (ITA) 6-1 6-2 and Simona Halep (ROU) was victorious over fellow countrywoman and No.8 seed Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) 6-4 6-2.
Top seed Yanina Wickmayer (BEL) also progressed after a win over Casey Dellacqua (AUS) 6-1 6-1.
Jones will meet Peer tomorrow morning whilst an all Australian affair between defending champion Jarmila Gajdosova (AUS) and Anastasia Rodionova (AUS) will headline the twilight session.
