Pete Sampras held off Andre Agassi 8-6 on Friday night in the HSBC Tennis Cup for his fifth victory in six Champions Series starts this season. ''Andre has always been a class guy, and is so gracious in his losses as well as his victories,'' Sampras said. ''It was nice tonight to be out here on the court at the Staples Center and to play with so much support behind me.'' In the semifinals, Sampras beat Jim Courier 7-6 (3) and Agassi edged John McEnroe 6-3. Sampras leads Michael Chang by 1,0000 points in the season standings with four events left.
