Agniezska Radwanska (January 5, 2013) No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland became the first tournament champion of  2013 by winning the ASB Classic in Auckland for her 11th career WTA singles title, defeating Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer 6-4, 6-4. “I’m very, very happy. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start the year,” Radwanska said. “It’s the perfect preparation for the Australian Open. “I had to fight for every ball. She is a great fighter.” Wickmayer was in her third Auckland final. “I’m disappointed but I left my heart and soul on court,” Wickmayer said on court after the match. “I was trying to be as aggressive as I could but it wasn’t enough today. I have to congratulate Agnieszka.” Radwanska pocketed the winner’s check for $37,000. In the doubles final, Cara Black and Anastasia Rodionova came back from a set down to gain a 6-2 2-6 10-5 win against Julia Goerges and Yaroslava Shvedova.  This was Black’s first WTA tour level event since returning to the tour
