On Friday, the world's top-ranked women's tennis player had to withdraw from a match on the account of receiving a bad pedicure.Victoria Azarenka was forced to back out of her Brisbane International semifinal bout against Serena Williams because of an infected toe on her right foot. The 23-year old had to back out just 30 minutes before the match's scheduled start time to receive treatment.Azarenka said she had been taping the injury up in hopes to be able to compete, but the infection got so serious that she needed to have a doctor remove part of the toe nail. Ouch."It just got infected from a bad pedicure experience. I had somebody who gave me infection," she said. "Actually the doctor said it happens a lot. Never happened to me (before), so it's something that I am definitely going to prevent for the next time.""I tried everything. We tried medication with taping, and I was playing through the pain for quite a while," Azarenka said. "It's just something that I had to do to make sure that I can be fully recovered and ready for Australian Open. It's that sort kind of compromise I had to take."Azarenka, who won the Brisbane title in '09, is hoping to be fully recovered by Jan. 14 for the start of the Australian Open. She is the defending champion of the event.Via Off the Bench.
