After being down 4-6, 3-6 in the first 2 sets of his quarterfinal match against 54th ranked Spaniard, Fernando Verdasco, Murray came back strong in the 3rd set to put himself back in the match– he won the set 6-1. The crowd fully backed Murray every single time he won a point and he used that to his advantage. In the 4th set, he fought hard to stay in the match and force a 5th set to secure a spot in the Semifinals– he did just that! He won the 4th set 6-4 and tied the match at 2 sets a piece. The 5th set was a thriller. Both Verdasco and Murray had their sights set on winning the match and played like champions. But Murray did exactly what the home crowd wanted him to do– he came back to win the match in the 5th set, 7-5 and gave tennis fans around the world one of the best Wimbledon matches of the tournament. Andy Murray was facing defeat, but that didn’t phase him. He will be advancing to the Semifinals and facing 22nd ranked Jerzy Janowicz. Murray’s quest for his first Wimbledon title is still alive. Luckily for me, that means my predictions weren’t entirely incorrect. If you take a look at my predictions (Wimbledon 2013: Gentlemen’s Singles Prediction), you will see that 100% of my predictions for who will be in the semifinals are correct. As for my quarterfinals predictions, I went 6/8, which isn’t too bad considering the craziness that’s taken over Wimbledon this year. According to my predictions, Andy Murray will not only play in the Finals, but also win. After watching today’s match, I was a bit worried at first, but Murray showed us that he’s a true champion and a phenomenal athlete. Wimbledon has certainly not disappointed and I believe the fun isn’t over. Even though Federer or Nadal aren’t in the final 4 of the Genetlemen’s draw of Wimbledon this year, the amount of skill, talent and excitement will be matched by the younger athletes like Del Potro or Janowicz. A Djokovic-Murray final seems probable and likely, but with the roller coaster ride this tournament has taken us on this year, there’s no knowing what will happen. If you’re not a tennis fan, now is a good time to start. If you are a tennis fan, well you know how great Wimbledon 2013 has been.
