Defending Olympic champion Dawn Harper, American teammate Lolo Jones and world champion Sally Pearson advanced to the semifinals of the women's 100-meter hurdles on Monday. Harper, Jones and Pearson won their respective heats. Pearson had the fastest time in the seven heats, covering the distance in 12.57 seconds - the fastest first-round time in Olympic history. Jessica Ennis - who won gold in the grueling, two-day heptathlon - pulled out of the hurdles Sunday. Jamaica's Brigitte Foster-Hylton failed to advance. She hit the fifth hurdle in her heat, veered toward an inside lane, got off stride and never recovered. She threw herself to the ground after the finish line, slapped the track surface, screamed loudly and then brushed aside Jones' attempt to console her.

Is Jones becoming a touch too much?

It's not Lolo Jones' fault that we want a beautiful virgin to cheer for. So why is anyone upset with her about that? It's true that Jones and her endorsers have been a little too obvious about building an image. We don't want to feel manipulated. So some people have had enough of Jones, and the months of Jones buildup leading into the Olympics. On Monday, she won...

Lolo Jones can't win for losing

All that emotion, all that work, all those personal details. Lolo Jones sold herself by being painfully honest with us. Four years of honesty, four years of salesmanship. She invested so much of herself into winning gold and baring her soul. What now? The winners go on to lives of glory. But what about the ones who shoot big and lose? Jones finished fourth in the Olympic 100-meter...

NY Times publishes scathing critique of hurdler Lolo Jones – was it unfair?

Hurdler Lolo Jones has a schizophrenic image but is it by design? And if it is, is that so wrong? I had to read the NY Times’ virtual take down of track and field star Lolo Jones twice and I think I’ve gathered my thoughts. Maybe.  Jere Longman, an NY Times reporter took on Lolo Jones’ image and the reasons she is a bigger celebrity than fellow track and field stars with...
