TWLOHA = Hope
"Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars." - Kahlil GibranI fill various roles in my daily life: Retired WNBA player, daughter, college basketball coach, big sister, mentor, author, Twitter addict. Now I'm proud to add one more: advocate. The minute I found To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), I knew I wanted...

I Am Not a Twitter Profile
"Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence." ~ George Washington
Someone told me yesterday that I'm so sweet on Twitter so he couldn't believe how negative I am in real life (ya, he really said that). It surprised me because I wouldn't consider myself a negative person at all (I've...

Feminine Athlete Means Homophobic Now?
Dear anyone who has a problem with female athletes (and those associated with them) celebrating, and even flaunting, their femininity,
I don’t understand why you are often so quick to accuse those who celebrate the feminine female athlete of being homophobic, and trying to rid women’s sports of "big bad lesbians". They are not always the same thing!

My Trip to Morocco!
Hey everyone! As many of you know, I'm in Morocco for two weeks, enjoying my first trip to Africa! During my time here I'll be in four different cities all over Morocco to put on basketball camps for girls and teach them leadership skills. I'm loving it so far! Here is the first of three blogs on the experience. It's a little scattered (next time I'll start filming...

VOTE FOR ME
Chantelle Anderson: The Next Oprah
Hey everyone! Between speaking for schools and organizations, putting together a basketball camp, and developing a mentoring program for young women, I've been pretty busy lately. And now I can add one more goal to my list: GET A CALL FROM OPRAH. Actually, it’ll probably be a call from one of her producers first, but whatever. Let me explain.
When Oprah...

Chantelle Anderson: Yes, I'm Going To Check Out Your Social Media
Notice: If we’re dating, expect me to check out your twitter, facebook profile, and whatever else. I’ll tell you why. Because I believe in certain transparencies in all intimate (emotional or physical) relationships. How’s that for an opening to inspire disagreement? But that’s ok; let me explain.
With technology seemingly taking over the world, we have...

Miss Chantelle: Fat Kids Piss Me Off
Seeing fat kids really pisses me off, and it has nothing to do with the kids. I'm not talking about kids that haven't lost their baby fat yet. I'm talking about obese kids that need to stop eating so much. But I can’t be mad at them, because they don’t go grocery shopping, or cook their own meals. Nor can they be expected to know the risks of unhealthy eating...

I'm Retiring
My basketball career ended yesterday. It's kind of a weird feeling, considering it's the only career I've ever known, even before I had a career. Since high school, there's never been a time I wasn't working at least five days a week, usually six, towards a basketball driven end. And now, at age 28, it's over.
After my first three weeks in Lebanon, I thought...
