Cody Rhodes Tipped to Turn Heel by WWE Hall of Famer
Mark Henry WWE

Mark Henry has suggested Cody Rhodes could be turning to the dark side after watching the WWE Champion's "heelish" promo on SmackDown. Rhodes is embroiled in a lengthy feud with Drew McIntyre and Henry thinks the Scottish Warrior is bringing out a villainous side of the American Nightmare.

Mark Henry on Cody Rhodes' Promo

Cody Rhodes' exchange with SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis was frosty, with Rhodes making several confident claims, such as being the man who "sent a tweet that changed the game." Aldis reminded him that he's not above the law, but Rhodes responded that, as long as he's WWE Champion, he is the law.

The passionate outburst from Rhodes came after learning that if he touches McIntyre before their next title match, he will be stripped of the title. He recently visited the Scot's home and attacked him before police arrived on the scene.

Henry reacted to the promo by suggesting McIntyre had pushed Rhodes to a low where he is starting to exhibit heelish characteristics. He said on Busted Open:

"In that promo that he cut to Nick Aldis, he was prideful, sounded very heelish. That's not what the hero does. Maybe it's the fact that Drew McIntyre is bringing this side of Cody out."

He added:

"The way that he's pushing Cody's buttons, we might lose Cody to the dark side. (McIntyre) is not just trying to win the title, he's trying to break Cody. I've never seen the good guy dip to the lowest lows like Cody is doing right now."

Rhodes has defended his title against McIntyre twice, first at Wrestlepalooza in September and secondly at Saturday Night's Main Event in November. But their feud has continued, with another title match set between the pair.

Could Cody Rhodes Turn Heel?

Rhodes has been a babyface ever since returning to WWE in April 2022 at WrestleMania 38, and he's become one of the company's poster boys during that time. He is in his second reign as WWE Champion after defeating John Cena at SummerSlam.

The American Nightmare has pulled off an excellent heel character in the past, including in TNA. But he recently admitted to Becky Lynch that he doesn't think he can perform a heelish role at this stage.

Rhodes is one of WWE's top stars and arguably the biggest babyface in the business, so turning him heel doesn't seem likely for now. But the seeds may well be sown for the 40-year-old to take on a darker persona, especially since he's reportedly facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42.

WWE will have to figure out a way to book that match with both stars coming out of it strong. One idea could be to have Rhodes' desperation come into effect and have him cheat to pick up the victory and kickstart an eventual heel run.
