The Syracuse Orange suffered their first loss of the season this weekend, but the loss taught us more good than bad about this team. The Kansas Jayhawks are the number two team in the nation, and there can be an argument made whether or not they should be even higher. The Orange came into this contest as an 11.5-point underdog, and while they didn’t cover, they showed that they have a never quit mentality and the potential to be a really scary team down the road. You’re not going to win many basketball games when your two best players combine for 3-14 shooting in the first half, so for the Orange to have the chance they did in the second half really shows something. Plain and simply, Tyus Battle and Frank Howard need to be on from the start in any game for this team to have a chance, and in this one they just weren’t themselves.
