Clemson Tigers football players are planning a protest against racial injustice on campus. John Glaser-USA TODAY Sports

As millions across the country, including many professional athletes, protest following the tragic death of George Floyd in police custody, one of the nation’s top college football teams is reportedly planning a demonstration of their own.

According to The Clemson Insider’s Will Vandervort, several members of Clemson’s football team plan to protest for racial injustice experienced across the United States.

The demonstration will take place on June 13 and begin at Clemson’s Bowman Field. From there, players will march from the field throughout Clemson’s campus in a movement to create awareness for issues regarding the police system and systemic inequalities within the country.

The protest is being organized with the help of linebacker Mike Jones Jr. and he plans to announce the protest Friday night on his Instagram account, per TCI. It will be a player-led demonstration, but they are encouraging anyone interested to join them. At this time, it’s not currently known if any coaches will be in attendance.

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney spoke about Floyd’s death and protests across the country earlier this week. During his press conference, Swinney offered his prayers to Floyd’s family and encouraged everyone to take on the challenge of creating positive change.

We are seeing athletes and organizations speak out more than ever following Floyd’s death at the hands of law enforcement.

One NFL head coach announced his team might demonstrate together this season to raise awareness for racial inequality. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys released a video calling for change to racial injustice issues experienced across the United States.
