The next Alien movie is called Alien: Romulus.

Confirmed by Disney earlier this week, the seventh (or ninth, depending on how you're counting) Alien movie is directed by Evil Dead Rise and Don’t Breathe horror maestro Fede Alvarez.

It won’t continue the story of 2017’s much-maligned Alien: Covenant, however. Instead, it’s a prequel, taking place in between the first two films.

“It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie,” Alien: Romulus star Cailee Spaeny tells Variety. “They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came on and built ours.”

Like Alvarez’s well-received Evil Dead revival, Alien: Romulus is a stripped-down, standalone movie that doesn’t require prior knowledge of the Alien universe.

The official synopsis describes "a group of young people on a distant world [who] find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe."

Ridley Scott has already seen Alien 7 (and says "it’s f***ing great").
