Don’t look now, but AMC’s favorite gothic and baroque vampire series just got morphed from one vampire to another. Backstories, character development, and relationships aside, the debauchery takes place front and center. This time, however, you don’t have the quiet and analytical side of Louis; you have the preternatural and hedonistic side of a rock star vampire. It’s time to meet Louis’ maker, Lestat.
Well, let’s just say AMC definitely will be featuring a different take, but they will stay true to the style that has already been set. Instead of Louis (Jacob Anderson), the series will focus on Lestat.
Lestat de Lioncourt (yes, quite a name) will be the featured fanged focus. Sam Reid, best known for his role as Dale on Newsreader, takes the fang, er, the reins as the starring succubus. We see life prior to Louis’s making.
Often called the Brat Prince or the Rule-breaker, Lestat lives life (or death? Or whatever’s in-between?) to the fullest. He doesn’t let decorum or deciding on the proper thing to do ever deter him.
What will we see in The Vampire Lestat? Besides the typical bloodsucking and intertwined plots, we’ll see more excess. Plus, we’ll likely witness delightfully bad behavior by Brat Prince Lestat. While explaining Louis’s maker, AMC will prepare you for Lestat’s long history and his vampiric supernatural realm.
AMC was participating in the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con at the end of July and announced the change. In the Vampire Chronicles, this is the progression. If we were to go any further, we would meet powerful Akasha in Anne Rice’s next installment, The Queen of the Damned. Hmm, would AMC get Gugu Mbatha-Raw to portray Akasha? Sam and Gugu’s vibe was off the charts in the lush and stunning 2013 period piece, Belle.
Interestingly enough, there is a series in development about the Talamasca, a component of Anne Rice’s books. It’s called Talamasca: The Secret Order and stars Elizabeth McGovern and Nicholas Denton. It’s set to premiere on AMC this coming October. Before Twilight and True Blood, there were vampires Louis and Lestat!
According to AMC, The Vampire Lestat will be “a sexy pilgrimage across space, time, and trauma.” That could describe a lot of characters’ (and people’s) backgrounds, but for now, we’ll just wait to see how the fanged rock star thing plays out.
