James Gunn’s Superman told the story of a brave superhero trying to do good in an evil world. His Clark Kent served as a beacon in the darkness, a reminder of who we should be . Someone like that might sound like the ultimate fiction, but we have a figure like that in the real world already. His name is Elmo, a constant source of joy and hope. So it only made sense that DC’s legendary hero stopped by Sesame Street to meet the kids’ show’s red icon. And when they did, the new Clark Kent/Superman David Corenswet taught Elmo about why eyeglasses provide the ultimate disguise.
Let’s just get this out of the way before we talk about anything else in this Superman x Elmo meet-cute. We’re not the first to make this joke, and we won’t be the last: Kal-Elmo.
Okay! That felt good. As does watching this video, where Superman‘s David Corenswet shows Elmo why a pair of black frames can totally obscure your real identity. When Elmo puts on Clark Kent’s signature glasses, Cookie Monster can’t even recognize his old friend. It’s the perfect disguise. No Hypno-Glasses required. Just a slight, mostly translucent addition to the face. Although, something tells us that if Elmo were making cookies while wearing these Superman glasses, Cookie Monster would not be so confused.
Corenswet wasn’t the only star of Superman to stop by Sesame Street to share an important lesson with Elmo. Lois Lane herself, Rachel Brosnahan, also joined her cinematic Man of Steel. Together, they taught Elmo about what it truly takes to be a superhero.
These were just two of the videos Corenswet made with the beloved puppets. You can find more at Sesame Street‘s Instagram page. And why wouldn’t you? Right now, the world needs every good person—or red monster—it can find. And finding them hanging out together is really good. Someone get Superman and Elmo a team-up TV series.
