Exciting! Barbie Animated Movie in Development from Mattel Studios and Illumination

The Barbie movie with Margot Robbie was a smash hit, and Mattel is looking to cash in on that success again, this time with an animated film. Let’s shed some light on this exciting news!

New Barbie Animated Movie

When Margot Robbie brought the iconic Barbie doll to life on the big screen, it was a smash hit. Now, there’s a new movie in the works. Deadline has reported that Mattel Studios and Illumination have made a deal for the development of a new animated film for theaters. We don’t know any other details, such as a date or anything else. Universal Pictures has an exclusive partnership with Illumination, so they would be the distributor of the as-yet-unnamed movie.

Even though we don’t have much to go on yet, this is still exciting news. The Barbie movie was a breakthrough hit with over $1.44 billion grossed worldwide. It scored 8 nominations for Academy Awards, and “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish won Best Original Song. So, this one has some pretty high-heeled shoes to fill!

This may be Barbie’s animated debut on the big screen, but she’s appeared in more than 40 animated films already. The first was Barbie in the Nutcracker, which was released in 2001. They might not be big feature-length movies, but if you’re looking for the doll’s charm to share with the kiddos in your life, this may be just the thing to fill your time. You can find many of them on Netflix. Of course, these aren’t the kind of production we can expect from this newly announced film, but some fans of Barbie find them fun.
