We're one month from the release of "Superman," the latest iteration of the franchise. This one features David Corenswet stepping into the titular role, and the film is written and directed by James Gunn. Gunn has been charged with revamping (salvaging?) the DC cinematic landscape, and "Superman" is the opening salvo in that effort. We've gotten a couple looks at Gunn's "Superman," but the last trailer has now been released. It's Warner Bros.'s last chance to entice people to check out the movie in theaters.
The message on the final trailer for "Superman" is clear: Tickets are on sale now! Hey, the only purpose of trailers is to entice people to see the movie, and for blockbusters like this getting people into theaters is what matters most. Warner Bros. isn't about to wait around for people to check out "Superman" on HBO Max, you know?
It's a proper trailer, not a cinematically-constructed teaser. You're getting a taste of the film, the characters, the performances, et al. Corenswet seems suited to the suit, but then again, so did Henry Cavill. That didn't pan out great. At least we'll always have Cavill's "Mission: Impossible" mustache and how it messed up "Justice League."
"Superman" comes out July 11, so this final trailer has to tide you over until then. Will this trailer sell anybody not already sold? Perhaps. They'll have to hope so, as the stakes are high and the pressure is on.
