'Good Fortune' trailer: Keanu Reeves is an angel in Aziz Ansari created comedy

Lionsgate has just released the official trailer for Good Fortune, written, directed, and produced by Aziz Ansari. The cast includes Seth Rogen, Ansari, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Keanu Reeves.

In GOOD FORTUNE, a well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Aziz Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).

"Before we met, I did a little Keanu film festival," Ansari told Entertainment Weekly while breaking down the trailer. "Just seeing little things you were doing in that, it felt like we could take some of your big comedic strengths and put it into Gabriel."

As for his small angel wings, Reeves explained that wearing them "really placed the character for me" and "were really kind of indicative of who the character was."

When it came to Elena, Ansari said that he "had Keke in my head when I was writing this character and I was so glad she was able to do it." He considers Elena the "soul of the movie."

Meanwhile, Reeves expressed it was "so lovely" to work with Oh, who plays his boss and has "bigger wings."

Anthony Katagas and Alan Yang also produce, while Aniz Adam Ansari, Jonathan McCoy, Christopher Woodrow, and Connor DiGregorio serve as executive producers.

During CinemaCon 2024, Lionsgate's motion picture group chair Adam Fogelson described the project as "entirely unique." Ansari added, "I can’t imagine a better cast to get as a director."

For his inspiration, he shared, "I have been doing some work that was more dramatic recently. I wanted to do a comedy and I wanted it to be in theaters," continuing to comment, "I don’t buy into this theory that theatrical comedies are not a thing."

Good Fortune will be released in theaters on October 17.
