Here's all the details on 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'

Sony Pictures just shared a new poster for Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's I Know What You Did Last Summer. This will be a reboot/sequel to the original 1997 film, with Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt both reprising their roles.

When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.

The new cast includes Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

"I think there's power in being older. There's power in having gone off and had three kids," Hewitt told ET. "There's a sense of, like, I can do anything now. The vulnerability that was Julie James in one and two definitely doesn't exist in this one. I'm excited to just show her grown up."

While speaking with the Scale Talk Podcast with David Miniatures, Prinze expressed, "She [Robinson] made them [our returning characters] such a powerful pushing forward of the other cast. It’s not like, 'Oh, here’s the Ray and Julie movie that we deserve.' That doesn’t even make sense. That guy’s dead. So it has to be the new generation. And the way she sort of laces us in there with them is just beautifully done. The script is wonderfully written."

As for his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who starred as Helen Shivers in the first movie, she confirmed to PEOPLE, "I am dead." However, she's still involved: "My best friend is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity. So I'm always the one telling her, 'Well, that would happen, or that wouldn't happen with those characters,' so I do have kind of an unofficial job title."

On LIVE with Kelly and Mark, the actress admitted, "You would think that being in my position, I know what rules are on sets when they say closed sets. So, my husband's starring in the movie, and it was Thanksgiving, so I took our kids to Australia to go out there and visit him. I was sitting on set and I was like, 'Oh what a great picture,' and then I posted it. Then, I found out that they hadn’t posted any pictures from the set yet, hadn’t announced [that] they started filming. Yeah… that was an 'Oops, my bad!'"

"It was such a cool picture, and it was so much fun. I mean, that’s the movie Freddie and I met on," she continued to say. "It was really cool to bring our kids there and my best friend in California is directing it and wrote it. It was just such a special time. And so, I got in a little bit of trouble."

I Know What You Did Last Summer will be released in theaters on July 18.
