Is the next Batman going to be middle-aged? Most certainly not, according to James Gunn.

The co-CEO of DC, who’s also directing 2025’s Superman, responded to a post on Threads by SmallScreenCo that read, “Looks like DC Studios wants a middle-aged Batman for the DCU!”

“Bull****,” wrote Gunn in response to the post, instantly dispelling the rumor. But that wasn’t the end of the interaction.

Warner Bros.

“Sometimes the rumor folks get information wrong,” wrote the original account following Gunn’s rebuttal. “But other times they seem to just make up stuff for clicks out of whole cloth. This is one of the latter.”

Another account then asked Gunn where these rumors come from, and Gunn responded by posting a picture of two butts talking to each other. The message couldn’t be clearer: the rumors are false, and DC is fully committed to a younger Batman.

Robert Pattinson, the current Batman in Matt Reeves 2022 film The Batman, is 38, which is approaching middle-age. However, he’s meant to be much younger in the film. That means DC is sticking with Pattinson in the role, and suggests his successor will be in a similar age range.
