Jenna Ortega teases details about "Wednesday" season 2 (and possibly season 3)

Jenna Ortega has been on a press tour for her upcoming horror-comedy "Death of a Unicorn," but in the process it seems interviewers are interested in discussing everything but the movie she is out there promoting. So, for her sake, we'll drop the trailer to "Death of a Unicorn" before we get to the "Wednesday" stuff.

Well, "Wednesday," like "Death of a Unicorn," is a dark comedy with horror elements, so at least the comparison point is there. As opposed to, say, unprompted trying to get Ortega tethered to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first season of "Wednesday" was a major hit for Netflix, helped elevate Ortega into stardom, and honestly probably helped finally get "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" out into the world for Tim Burton. The second season will be released at a heretofore unknown time in 2025, but Ortega has some details to spill (or, rather, obliquely tease) already.

Ortega noted that season two of "Wednesday" is packed to the brim with horror references, including an entire episode inspired by the slasher genre. Given that Ortega was in a "Scream" movie, that feels apt. Also, while Ortega may have only been in an MCU movie for a split second, she may have picked up the MCU member penchant of hyperbolic cinematic references. While prefacing her statement with, "It’s crazy to talk about one frame like this," Ortega goes on to say that said frame reminds her "so much" of Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket."

That's season two, but what about season three? While "Wednesday" has not been picked up for a third season, Ortega did say that the show's writers are "messing around and throwing out ideas" for a third season. Given how popular the first season of "Wednesday" was, and given the cache having Burton and Ortega's names attached to the service gives Netflix, unless the second season tanks, you can bet on those ideas for a third season coming to fruition. If Burton, Ortega, and the writers want it, they'll have it.
