LeBron James confronts high stakes in the new trailer for 'Space Jam: A New Legacy'

The Space Jam sequel is running about 25 years behind schedule, according to fans, but their long wait is about to pay off.

Ahead of Space Jam: A New Legacy's July 16 theatrical and HBO Max release, a new trailer has been served as an appetizer:

In the nearly two-and-a-half-minute teaser, LeBron James is transformed into a cartoon and laments being "shorter than Kevin Hart" before getting better acquainted with his Tune Squad teammates. The only way LeBron can get his son, played by Cedric Joe, back from the evil AI-G Rhythm (Don Cheadle) is to win a basketball game against the Goon Squad, voiced by various NBA and WNBA stars such as Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike.

To make the stakes even higher, if King James can't win, all Looney Tunes will be deleted.

A New Legacy, directed by Malcolm D. Lee, was first teased via an Entertainment Weekly cover published in early March.

The first trailer arrived in early April:

Also Wednesday (June 9), it was reported that James will change his Los Angeles Lakers jersey number next season to No. 6, which he wore for A New Legacy and during his stint with the Miami Heat:

Yesterday (June 8), James himself announced that he will debut the LeBron 19 sneaker in the movie. Nike then unveiled a full New Legacy apparel line.
