Remember when Margot Robbie was seemingly 50-feet tall at the beginning of the movie Barbie? Well, if one rumor is to be believed, she will literally be 50 feet tall in a Tim Burton-directed remake of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. According to a leak from a reliable Hollywood insider, The InSneider, Robbie has been in talks with Burton to star as the titular giant woman.
In the original 1958 Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, a woman named Nancy (Allison Hayes) is transformed into a giant by the effects of a passing meteor. The movie was directed by Nathan Hertz from a script by Mark Hanna. It is considered part of a 1950s horror/monster movie trend in which people are either shrunken down or made larger. Similar movies in this genre include The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) and The Amazing Colossal Man (1957).
First reported in 2024, it appears that Tim Burton's remake of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman is very real. Considering his oeuvre (Batman, Mars Attacks!), this kind of movie makes perfect sense for him. The only question is: Will this be a more serious take? Or will Burton lean into the campy pulp aspect of the original?
You can watch the original 1958 version of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman for rent on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and elsewhere.
As of this writing, Margot Robbie has not been confirmed for the reboot.
