Marvel reveals star-studded "Avengers: Doomsday" cast will include Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Thomas Hiddleston and more

Sure, maybe even the returning Robert Downey Jr. (now playing Doctor Doom) couldn't get Anthony and Joe Russo to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe himself, but thanks to a story they like the Russos are back, Downey is back, and a whole bunch of other people are back. Marvel hit YouTube with a live announcement unveiling many cast members for the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday," which will be followed by "Avengers: Secret Wars." Honestly? The livestream really wasn't all that exciting to watch, but the news generated by it certainly is.

Unsurprisingly, the Fantastic Four actors made the cut, what with that quartet essentially positioned as the focal point of this "phase" of the MCU. Notably, though, most of the cast of "Thunderbolts*" is also in the mix. Sure, Sebastian Stan has been doing the Bucky Barnes thing forever, and why would you ever miss a chance to have Florence Pugh in your movie, but even David Harbour's Red Guardian and Hannah John-Kamen's Ghost have made the cut. Also, guess none of them are dying in "Thunderbolts*" then?

Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Anthony Mackie will clearly never escape the MCU. Letitia Wright has time to film "Doomsday" since she isn't terribly busy sharing anti-vax content these days. After having seen "Captain America: Civil War," "Infinity War," and "Endgame," it's hard to create too much of a stir through sheer immensity. Wait a second, though. Baby, do you hear the blues a-callin'?

Mined for the 20th Century Fox days of Marvel movies, we have Patrick Stewart at Charles Xavier and Kelsey Grammer as Beast in the mix as well. Granted, Stewart was in "Doctor Strange: In the Mouth of Madness," but also Patrick Stewart rules so that's still cool.

We definitely seem to be past Peak Superhero Movie, but Marvel still wants to be firmly within the zeitgeist. The "Avengers: Doomsday" cast certainly has a lot of name recognition, but can that carry interest all the way until 2026?
