Michael B. Jordan opens up about Lori Harvey: 'I finally found what love was'

Michael B. Jordan wouldn't have taken the leading role in A Journal for Jordan, or in any romantic movie, at any other point in his life.

"There are roles that I passed on that I knew I didn’t have enough life experience to play. I was like, ‘What can I pull from?’" the 34-year-old actor told The Hollywood Reporter for a new cover story. "But I finally found what love was."

Jordan was first linked to Lori Harvey, 24, in November 2020, and they went Instagram official in January before Jordan dropped the L-bomb in February.

"When I was younger, I don’t know if I could have handled the onslaught of opinions and being picked apart, and also being conscious of what the other person’s going to go through," Jordan continued with THR, explaining why he made his relationship public. He later noted "the situation was real enough" to make him want to tell everyone. "It takes a special person to deal with that."

"Long story short, I think it’s just the timing of everything," the Black Panther star added. "It was the right time for me. Yeah. I’m happy."

A Journal for Jordan is based on the true story of U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Charles Monroe King and Dana Canedy, adapted by screenwriter Virgil Williams from Canedy's 2008 bestselling memoir by the same name. Canedy and King were engaged when he was killed in Iraq in 2006, a month away from finishing his tour of duty. He had been writing a journal of advice for their then-infant son, Jordan, while he was away.

Jordan portrays King and Chanté Adams portrays Canedy in A Journal for Jordan. The romantic drama, directed by none other than Denzel Washington, arrives in theaters Christmas Day. Watch the trailers below.
