New 'Little House on the Prairie' has found its Ingalls family

Despite originally being published in the 1930s, Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House novels are still beloved by many today, passed down from generation to generation. 73+ million copies, translated into at least 27 languages, have been sold in over a hundred countries.

The stories, which were based on Wilder's experience growing up during the 1800s in the American West, were turned into a TV show that premiered in 1974 and came to an end in 1983, running for nine seasons.

Netflix is bringing the magic back to audiences with a new reimagining starring Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls.

Rebecca Sonnenshine will serve as showrunner and executive producer and told TUDUM, "I fell deeply in love with these books when I was five years old. They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new audience."

More executive producers include Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel.

"It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st-century audience in a way that brings together fans of both the books and the original television series," CEO Friendly expressed

"Little House on the Prairie has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story," commented Vice President Jinny Howe, Drama Series, Netflix. "Rebecca’s vision threads the needle with an emotional depth that will delight both new and existing fans of this beloved classic."

A release date has not yet been announced.
