Stadium tour season: Who is coming to each city this summer

Don't feel like trekking across the country for a giant musical festival? How about all of the spectacle of a large concert, but the convenience of a local stadium to host a mega-sized show instead? Acts like Beyonce, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Billy Joel and Ed Sheeran can fill a venue on their own – without all of the mucking about in the mud. It's a big country, here are 34 of the biggest stops along the way the summer concert season.

Atlanta

Summers never cool down in Atlanta, and that’s certainly true for this concert season. On April 28, the Foo Fighters will play the Georgia State Stadium downtown, and at the two new stadiums, music fans can check out the Zac Brown Band (June 30), Def Leppard and Journey (July 1), and Jason Aldean (July 2) play SunTrust Park, while over at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, acts such as Taylor Swift (Aug. 10 and 11), Beyonce and Jay-Z with their “On the Run II” tour (Aug. 25 and 26), and barely in under the ‘summer season’ wire, Ed Sheeran (Nov. 10).

Boston

If there is a party in Boston this summer, chances are it’s near Fenway – even without the baseball team there. The Zach Brown band plays two days (June 15 and 16), Luke Bryan and company come through in July (July 6), followed by two nights of the Foo Fighters (July 21 and 21), before August dates for Jimmy Buffet with The Coral Reefer Band and Huey Lewis & The News (Aug. 9), Billy Joel (Aug. 10), Journey and Def Leppard (Aug. 11). But the big Fenway news? Sold out shows for Pearl Jam on Sept. 2 and Sept. 4.

If Fenway is storied enough, you can hop down Gillette Stadium in Foxborough for three nights of Taylor Swift (July 26-28), Jay-Z and Beyonce (Aug. 5), Kenny Chesney (Aug. 24 and 25), and Ed Sheeran (Sept. 14 and 15.)

You didn’t think we’d ignore small cities? When you’re big enough to hold two nights of Dead & Company at University of Colorado’s Folsom Field, that’s enough of a jam for us. You can checkout the two shows July 13 and 14.

Buffalo

Buffalo is often overlooked for nearby Toronto when it comes to the concert scene, but Jay-Z and Beyonce are taking their "On the Run II" tour to the Bills’ home of New Era Field on Aug. 18.

Chicago

Wrigley is home to more than just the Cubs this summer, with eight shows on the bill for the North side. Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band play Wrigley Field Friday, July 13, along with special guest Boz Scaggs, and then the next night on Saturday, July 14, Def Leppard and Journey will perform with special guest The Pretenders. The Foo Fighters play back-to-back nights on July 29 and 30, and Pearl Jam is scheduled to take the stage on Aug. 18 and 20. (Sadly, both nights are already sold out.)

Luke Bryan and friends Sam Hunt, Jon Pardi, Carly Pearce and DJ Rock take to Wrigley on Sept. 1, followed by Billy Joel on Sept. 7, and then finally, Fall Out Boy with Rise Against and Machine Gun Kelly will play the field Sept. 8.

Over at Soldier Field, Taylor Swift will play with Charli XCX June 1 and 2, Kenny Chesney will play with Thomas Rhett and Old Dominion on July 28, “On the Run II” with Beyonce and Jay-Z take the field Aug. 10 and 11, and finally, on Oct. 4 Ed Sheeran will close out the season.

Cleveland

“How you doing tonight, Cleveland?” Or at least we hope that’s what Taylor Swift yells in the city that hosts the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame when she plays First Energy Stadium on July 17.

One of the biggest stadiums in sports, the Ohio Stadium, will be home to Taylor Swift on July 7 and Beyonce & Jay-Z on Aug. 16.

Dallas

Everything is bigger in Texas, so we expect only the biggest shows at AT&T Stadium outside of Dallas. Kenny Chesney (May 19), the Eagles with Chris Stapleton (June 23), Beyonce and Jay-Z (Sept. 11), Taylor Swift (Oct. 5 and 6) and Ed Sheeran (Oct. 27) – yeah, that’s a roster big enough for the DFW.

Denver

Music fans in Denver will have their choice between seeing shows at Coors Field and Mile High this summer. At Coors Field, the Eagles will be playing with Jimmy Buffett on June 28, and on July 21, the hardest of the ‘80s rockers can take in Def Leppard and Journey. Over at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Taylor Swift brings her "Reputation" stadium tour to town (May 25), followed by Kenny Chesney and friends (June 30), and Luke Bryan’s “What Makes You Country” tour (Aug. 4).

Detroit

Detroit has music down to its very bones, so it’s no surprise acts would want to fill both stadiums. At Comerica Park, Journey and Def Leppard take the stage July 13, followed the next night on July 14 with the Zac Brown band, OneRepublic, Nahko and Medicine for the People. Over at Ford Field the party doesn’t get started until August, with Kenny Chesney coming through first (Aug. 4), followed by Beyonce and Jay-Z (Aug. 13), and Taylor Swift (Aug. 28). Ed Sheeran plays Ford next (Sept. 8) with Luke Bryan closing out the season (Oct. 26).

The University of Oregon's Autzen Stadium will play host to the Dead & Company on June 30, which will be the first time in 21 years since a Grateful Dead-related band has played the venue after locals complained about drug use at the stadium in the 1990s.

Houston

It will be a bit of a homecoming this summer when Beyonce (along with husband, Jay-Z), plays back-to-back nights at NRG Park on Sept. 15 and 16. You also can’t spell “stadium” this summer without “T-Swift” (some of the letters are silent), and her “Reputation” tour lands in NRG Park on Sept. 29.

Across town at Minute Maid Park, the Eagles will be playing with Chris Stapleton on June 15, and Ed Sheeran will just miss the end of baseball season, scheduling his show for Nov. 3.

Indianapolis

What did we say? You can't have a stadium without Taylor Swift playing it this summer? While not universal; it's lucky for the nice people of Indianapolis have a place for her 2018 mega-tour, coming to Indy with with Charli XCX on Sept. 15.

Kansas City, Missouri

Kauffman Stadium, home to the Royals (you know, who Lorde once sang about), will host its first concert in 39 years when Billy Joel plays there on Sept. 21. (The last concert at Kauffman Stadium featured Santana and REO Speedwagon. It was that long ago.)

Over at Arrowhead Stadium, Kenny Chesney brings the whole gang to town on July 14, Taylor Swift plays Sept. 8, and Ed Sheeran closes out the season on Oct. 13.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles

You would think that with as many stadiums as there are around Los Angeles, there would be more big shows playing this summer, but only a few acts are braving the largest stages in LA. Dodger Stadium will host the Dead & Company on July 7, followed by Luke Bryan with Sam Hunt, Jon Pardi and Morgan Wallen on July 28, while over in Pasadena, the Rose Bowl will host Taylor Swift May 18 and 19, Ed Sheeran on Aug. 18, and Beyonce/Jay-Z on Sept. 22 and 23.

Louisville, Kentucky

Rupp Arena in Lexington tends to get the larger shows that stop through Kentucky, but this year, Taylor Swift will play Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville on June 30.

Miami

When they renamed it the Hard Rock Stadium, they needed to make sure it lived up to its reputation. And while we’re not sure the Eagles with Jimmy Buffett (April 21), Taylor Swift (Aug. 18), or the “On the Run II” tour from Beyonce and Jay-Z (Aug. 31) fit the bill, the three-day Rolling Loud Festival featuring J. Cole, Travis Scott, Migos, Cardi B and Future among dozens of other acts certainly do.

Miller Park will host Kenny Chesney early this season (April 28), and will see singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran take the stage as the leaves turn to fall (Oct. 23).

Target Field is on point this summer, playing host to the Eagles with Jimmy Buffet (June 30), Luke Bryan and Sam Hunt (July 21), Journey, Def Leppard with special guest Cheap Trick (July 27), and the Zac Brown Band with OneRepublic (Aug. 10). Over at U.S. Bank Stadium, recently home to the Super Bowl, Taylor Swift takes the stage for two nights (Aug. 31 and Sept. 1).

What? You think only Grateful Dead-related bands can play college towns? Think again, because Pearl Jam is rocking Washington-Grizzly Stadium at the University of Montana on Aug. 13.

Welcome home, Eddie.

Nashville

As the home of country, it’s not surprising to see Nashville taking its stadium concert game to the next level. Nissan Stadium will be home to CMA Music Festival from June 7-10, Kenny Chesney on Aug. 10, Taylor Swift on Aug. 25 and if you need a break from country (or in Swift’s case, country-ish), Ed Sheeran will play the stadium on Oct. 6.

New Orleans

Music fans in New Orleans are already spoiled with such a lively local scene, but the shows in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this summer offer something everyone. On May 27, the Bayou Country Superfest  with George Strait, Chris Stapleton, Little Big Town and Kacey Musgraves have the venue for the Memorial Day weekend. On July 6-8, the annual Essence Music Festival brings headliners Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu and more to the stage. September starts sees Jay-Z and Beyonce (Sept. 12) and Taylor Swift (Sept. 22) roll through town before Ed Sheeran ends the season at the Superdome on Oct. 31.

New York

Yankee Stadium might be avoiding the spotlight this summer outside of ball games, but MetLife Stadium and Citi Field are rocking all summer long. At MetLife, Luke Bryan kicks off the summer season on June 2, and Hot 97 hosts their annual summer concert event – still under wraps for the 25th anniversary – on June 10 to really get the city cooking. Rounding out MetLife’s schedule is Taylor Swift for three nights (July 20-22), Bey and Jay-Z (Aug. 2-3), Kenny Chesney’s “Trip Around the Sun” (Aug. 18), and Ed Sheeran on Sept. 21-22.

At Citi Field, the Dead & Company will jam their way across the universe on June 15-16, while the Zac Brown Band plays July 28-29.

Orlando

There is more to Orlando than Disney; and we're pretty sure "Life in the Fastlane" wasn't written about Tommorrowland's Speedway. Just to be sure, check out the Eagles (with Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band) on April 14 at Camping World Stadium.

And if you're still not convinced it's not all Disney all the time, Jay-Z and Queen Bey take the Camping World Stadium stage on Aug. 29. "Drunk in Love" isn't one we remember seeing Mickey and Minnie singing.

Philadelphia

Philadelphia has more than just a Super Bowl to celebrate at the Linc; Lincoln Financial Field has more than a few hot shows coming through town. Kenny Chesney along with Thomas Rhett and Old Dominion take to the stage on June 9, followed by two nights with Taylor Swift and Camila Cabello (July 13-14), "On the Run II" with Jay-Z and Beyonce (July 30), and Ed Sheeran at the end of summer (Sept. 27). Over at Citizens Bank Park, Billy Joel plays as part of his baseball stadium tour on July 27, and the Eagles come to town with James Taylor on July. 28.

Pittsburgh

Heinz Field will see the most action in Pittsburgh this summer, with Kenny Chesney (June 2), Luke Bryan (June 30) and Taylor Swift (Aug. 7) coming through town. PNC Park, however, will host Ed Sheeran on Sept. 30 as the baseball season winds down.

San Diego

At Petco Park, you can bring your furry pals to games, but you'll probably want to leave even the fiercest cats at home when the Eagles play Sept. 22 with the Zac Brown Band and the Doobie Brothers. And if that is not enough, the next night on Sept. 23 Petco hosts Journey and Def Leppard.

San Francisco-Santa Clara

The whole reason for our list! Metallica Night at AT&T Park is on April 23!  If hard rock isn't your speed, Ed Sheeran plays the ballpark on Aug. 21, the Eagles with the Zac Brown Band are on Sept. 20, and Journey with Def Leppard take the outfield stage on Sept. 21.

Also in the Bay Area, Taylor Swift plays Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara for two nights (May 11-12) and Jay-Z & Beyonce have a date on Sept. 29.

Seattle

Seattle

The home of grunge is getting ready for what is being billed as the biggest stadium show in Seattle since the Rolling Stones played the Kingdome in 1981. Of course, Pearl Jam's two nights at Safeco Field (Aug. 8 and 10) are already sold out, but it doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other stadium concerts to choose from. The Zac Brown Band rolls into Safeco on Aug. 31 and the Foo Fighters land at the park on Sept. 1

Over at CenturyLink Field, Taylor Swift with Charli XCX play on May 22, Kenny Chesney and friend on July 7, Ed Sheeran on Aug. 25, and Oct. 4 Beyonce and Jay-Z hold court on their "OTR II" tour.

Tampa Bay

Did we finally get to a city where we can watch Snoop Dogg at a stadium? We most certainly did. The Raymond James Stadium in Tampa has a full-slate this summer with not only the Doggfather, but a dance festival club-goers look forward to every summer in the Florida sun. Things get started with Kenny Chesney (April 21), the Halftime Music Festival with Snoop Dogg and TI (May 5), the Sunset Music Festival with Marshmello, Excision and Alan Walker over Memorial Day weekend (May 26-27), followed by Luke Bryan (June 23), Taylor Swift (Aug. 14) and yes, Ed Sheeran sneaks in Nov. 7.

Washington D.C.

D.C. is known for its hot, muggy summers, but with acts like Taylor Swift and Jay-Z/Beyonce playing back-to-back nights in July (July 10-11 and July 27-28, respectively), we can't help think the nation's capital is a little too cool. Need a little Yacht Rock to go along with? The Eagles and James Taylor play National Park on July 26, and if you're not already busy with the "On the Run II" tour, Zac Brown and OneRepublic also have a date at the ballpark on July 27.
