Tiffany Haddish will produce and star in Florence Griffith Joyner biopic

This year is going well for Tiffany Haddish, to say the least.

Variety revealed Thursday (June 3) that Haddish will have the opportunity to portray one of her childhood heroes in an upcoming Florence Griffith Joyner biopic:

"The Girls Trip actress will star as Florence Griffith Joyner, known as 'Flo-Jo' to her fans, who helped popularize track and field with her record-breaking Olympic run and flashy personality and style (she originated the 'one-legger' look with her running suits). Many of the records that Joyner set in the 1988 Olympics, including those in the 100 m and 200 m, have yet to be broken. Joyner died in 1998 at the age of 38 of an epileptic seizure. "Haddish will produce the film, as well. A release announcing the project says that Joyner was one of Haddish’s heroes growing up."

Haddish, 41, expressed her excitement and gratitude on Twitter:

In March, Haddish won a Grammy for best comedy album—becoming the first Black woman to win the category since Whoopi Goldberg in 1986. The actress, author and comedienne learned of her victory while filming CBS's Kids Say The Darndest Things revival, which debuted its second season in May.

Haddish also has two films under her belt in 2021 with Netflix's Bad Trip and the Billy Crystal-directed Here Today.
