Disney dropped the trailer for Zootopia 2, and it demonstrates more of the animal hijinks that were so clever in the first movie. With a mysterious snake wanted by the police and more of Nick and Judy’s dynamic relationship, the movie looks like it will be a fun time, even though people are questioning why Disney is churning out so many sequels.
The trailer begins with Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde attending a “Partners in Crisis” therapy meeting, even though Judy insists that she and Nick are doing fine. We learn that it’s been a week since Judy and Nick became official police partners, though the trailer doesn’t reveal what landed them in therapy. However, it must be something serious, since when the bunny and fox duo are sent to capture a mysterious snake criminal, they are faced with being split up if they don’t succeed. Like the teaser, the full trailer gives us glimpses of favorite characters from the original, such as Flash the sloth and Mr. Big the rodent mob boss.

The snake’s name is Gary, and he will be voiced by Ke Huy Quan. Beyond that, little is known about the character. The trailer gives no reason why he is wanted by the police, but we hear Nick saying that no snake has been seen in Zootopia in forever. This could mean that the sequel will continue tackling the original movie’s themes of prejudice and bigotry. We also hear the snake saying that he needs to help his family, which could mean that he is being wrongly accused.
Zootopia 2 is set for release on November 26, 2025. Some people are groaning at Disney releasing so many sequels and remakes, but the animal-rich world of Zootopia has so much potential to be explored further. Introducing reptiles into the largely mammal-centric world could open up new possibilities (what kinds of accommodations would an animal with no limbs need, for example?). Besides, Nick and Judy’s banter is always so much fun. Seeing their relationship grow is definitely welcome.
