To open up the press conference, Arthur Blank confirmed that new head coach Arthur Smith was the Falcons #1 choice.

Of course, it would be a little bit odd for him to say anything else right before introducing him to the Atlanta media and fans, but Smith seemed like the guy from the jump and was possibly the hottest head coaching candidate on the market.

Another interesting tidbit picked up from Arthur Blank was that he was contacted by Hall-of-Fame coach Joe Gibbs, who raved about Arthur Smith. Smith served on Gibbs’ staff from 2007-2008 as a defensive quality control coach.

However, perhaps the best thing Blank said regarding the hires of Fontenot and Smith is that they favored each other throughout the process despite not knowing each other. They both did their homework, and when Blank asked them who they wanted, Fontenot said Smith, and Smith said Fontenot. They have since already begun to form a relationship.

Stay tuned for more updates from today’s press conferences with Arthur Smith and Terry Fontenot.
