The St. Louis Cardinals took it right to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night in the series opener at Busch Stadium, busting out for eight runs to back up Dakota Hudson, who fired six shutout innings.
The Cardinals won by a final of 8-3 and improved to 11-7 on the young season.
But they almost made a little history with their offensive outburst in game one of the series.
St. Louis broke out last night with 15 hits, but the interesting part is that they were all singles.
They fell one short of their franchise record of most hits without an extra-base hit that was set back on April 20, 1928 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

For the Cardinals, it’s a welcomed sight, given their extreme offensive struggles over the past several years.
Now, this lineup is living up to the hype.
With guys like Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado leading the way, this team has the ability to score a ton of runs per game and make opposing pitchers work.
Even if it’s just singles, players will take hits any way they can.
It’s all about scoring runs, something the Cardinals are doing a great job of early on in 2022.
Their offense has contributed heavily to their 11-7 start.
The bats busted out last night against a struggling Diamondbacks team and delivered an all-important series win.
It’s rare that you’ll see that many hits though without a single one of them being an extra-base hit.
One would expect that there would be some home runs mixed in if their team scored eight runs on 15 hits.
They were just one short of history, but the offense is clicking for St. Louis.
