Cardinals Make Roster Move Ahead of Phillies Game

The St. Louis Cardinals made another roster adjustment Sunday, activating infielder Ramón Urías from the 60-day injured list while placing outfielder Everson Pereira on the 10-day IL with a left hand contusion.

The Cardinals announced the moves through their official X account ahead of their series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Pereira suffered the injury Friday night when he was hit on the left hand by a pitch from Phillies reliever Orion Kerkering during the eighth inning. X-rays were negative, but the injury left the outfielder unable to return to the lineup over the weekend.

The 25-year-old had been back with St. Louis since being claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox earlier this month. He appeared in 12 games for the Cardinals, recording three hits, one home run and two RBIs during that stretch.

Urías gives St. Louis another experienced option around the infield after spending much of the season on the injured list. The veteran has appeared at second base, third base and shortstop during his major league career, giving manager Oliver Marmol additional flexibility.

Before his injury, Urías appeared in 25 games for the Cardinals and hit .158 with a .279 on-base percentage, two home runs and five RBIs. His return provides another available position player as the Cardinals navigate a growing list of roster absences.

The timing is particularly important with Masyn Winn also dealing with a thumb injury that has kept him out of the starting lineup. Urías’ ability to cover multiple infield positions gives St. Louis another way to manage those absences.

Pereira’s placement means the Cardinals will have to find additional outfield coverage while he recovers. For now, the club will hope the hand injury does not keep him sidelined beyond the minimum required stint.

The Cardinals enter Sunday’s finale needing to manage their depleted roster while trying to finish the Philadelphia series on a positive note.
