The Colorado Rockie s announced today that they are relieving longtime manager Bud Black of his duties amid a horrible 7-33 start. As it relates to the Los Angeles Dodgers' manager, Dave Roberts, he has made it clear that Black was a mentor for him in his journey to becoming an MLB skipper.
Today, following the Dodgers' win, Roberts revealed some of his emotions once he heard the news of Black's firing:
"I'm bummed. I'm disappointed. I don't think Casey Stengel could change the outcome of that ballclub, and that's not the manager's fault."

Casey Stengel was a Hall of Fame manager who led the New York Yankees to seven World Series titles with the organization.
For the Rockies, it has been an abysmal start. They have had three separate instances of losing eight or more consecutive games, and it isn't even the middle of May. Roberts is highlighting how the firing may not be totally the fault of Black himself, but rather the Rockies organization for trading away star players, not being willing to spend, and having a bad front office.
Black was in the midst of his ninth season with the Rockies, had a career 544-690 record with the team, and had not made the playoffs since 2018.
The firing comes on the heels of the Rockies' stewardship backing their manager amid a disastrous start. He may truly just be seriously unlucky as a manager, because it seemed like everyone in the baseball community had high respect for.
The Rockies were also just beaten by an unfathomable 21 runs by their National League West foe, the San Diego Padres.
