Injury updates on four Braves pitchers
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The Braves pitching staff has been decimated by injuries of late. They are currently without three starters, including two Cy Young candidates from a year ago, and four of their top relievers, but there’s hope that will change in the coming weeks.

MLB.com’s Mark Bowman reported prior to yesterday’s game some promising news surrounding a few of the Braves pitchers. Max Fried felt great after his last rehab start, but they aren’t going to rush him back. He’ll make one more rehab start before returning. A.J. Minter and Dylan Lee also got through their bullpen sessions without any issues.

Of them all, it’s actually Jesse Chavez that appears the furthest away from returning. He’s still walking with a limp after he was struck in the leg by a line drive off the bat of Miguel Cabrera. Given there was no structural damage, the initial thought was that Chavez wouldn’t need to go on the IL at all. Now, it’s been six weeks, and the lack of progress in his recovery is discouraging.
