Mets Trade Tommy Pham to NL Contender

The fire sale continues.

Just before the 6 p.m. deadline on Tuesday, the New York Mets sent outfielder Tommy Pham to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor leaguer Jeremy Rodriguez. 

Rodriguez is a 17-year-old shortstop, who has spent the year playing in rookie ball. He was not ranked in the Diamondbacks' top 30 prospects list, per MLB Pipeline.

The Mets traded Pham, who was on a one-year, $6 million deal.

Pham is having a strong season, slashing .268/.348/.472 with a .820 OPS, 10 home runs and 36 RBIs.

In addition to Pham, the Mets traded their aces, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. They also sent David Robertson and Mark Canha out of town as well.

After surpassing the highest payroll of all-time only to fail miserably, the Mets are entering a rebuild in 2024. As Scherzer revealed, the Mets are retooling for 2025-2026.

Pham was the latest Met to be traded.
