Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed left-handed reliever Rob Zastryzny on the 15-day injured list with left forearm inflammation on Friday.

In a corresponding move, Pittsburgh selected rookie right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Zastryzny, who pitched one scoreless inning Thursday in a 7-2 loss at the Chicago Cubs, is 1-0 with a 5.29 ERA, 13 walks and 13 strikeouts in 17 innings over 18 appearances.

The 31-year-old has played for the Cubs (2016-22), New York Mets (2022), Los Angeles Angels (2022) and Pirates.

Mlodzinski, 24, transitioned from a starter to a reliever this year at Indianapolis, where he was 2-2 with one save, a 3.16 ERA, 11 walks and 31 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings over 19 appearances. Before his promotion, Mlodzinski was scored upon in only two of his 12 most recent outings for Indianapolis, posting a 2.16 ERA (four earned runs in 16 2/3 innings).

The Pirates selected Mlodzinski 31st overall in the 2020 draft out of the University of South Carolina.
