Rangers Lose Top Offensive Weapon Amid Postseason Push

The Texas Rangers will have to navigate the final stretch of the regular season without one of their most important offensive contributors.

The Rangers placed designated hitter Joc Pederson on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left wrist fracture. The move is retroactive to Sept. 19, giving Pederson a chance to return at the beginning of the postseason if Texas advances.

Pederson has been out since Sept. 13 after suffering the injury. He has played 136 games this season and is batting .235 with 26 home runs and 53 RBIs, giving the Rangers’ lineup a significant power loss at a critical point of the season.

The Rangers also made a significant pitching move Tuesday, transferring right-hander Cal Quantrill to the 60-day injured list. Quantrill suffered a right lat injury after throwing only 12 pitches against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sept. 19.

The move ends his season and rules him out for the postseason. Quantrill finished his 2026 campaign with a 9-5 record and a 2.86 ERA, leaving Texas without one of its most reliable arms for the stretch run.

Texas did receive some roster help, activating infielder/outfielder Michael Helman from the 60-day injured list. Helman had been sidelined with multiple right-hand fractures and can provide additional depth for the Rangers’ final games.

The Rangers entered Wednesday tied with the Houston Astros atop the AL West at 78-79, with six regular-season games remaining. Pederson’s availability could become particularly important if Texas reaches the postseason, as the retroactive IL placement leaves him eligible to return for the Wild Card round.
