The Mets Set Sad MLB History With Series Loss

The New York Mets‘ season is over.

With last night’s 6-0 loss to the San Diego Padres in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series, a season full of promise came crashing down for the Mets.

They had won Game 2 to set up the deciding game, but Joe Musgrove and the Padres had other plans.

The Mets will now join the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, and St. Louis Cardinals on the golf course.

With their season-ending loss, the Mets ended up setting some unfortunate history, becoming the first 100-win team to not reach the Division Series since its implementation back in 1995.

Ugly History

There’s always a first time for everything, even bad moments.

For the Mets, it doesn’t get much worse than this.

New York led the NL East for the vast majority of the season before the Atlanta Braves came charging and took it from them, forcing them into the Wild Card round.

And last night, New York earned the dubious honor of being the first ever team to win 100 or more games and not even reach the Division Series.

To make matters worse, Game 2 could’ve been the last time we see Jacob deGrom in a Mets uniform, as the star right-hander is a free agent to be and made it clear earlier in the season that he planned on testing the waters.

The NLDS will get underway tomorrow.

The Padres will advance to play the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the Braves host the resurgent Philadelphia Phillies.

The season is over for the Mets, and their main focus this offseason will likely be finding a way to retain deGrom after their once promising season fell short.
