Before Denny Hamlin got into the recap of the race weekend on Actions Detrimental he took time to reflect on the passing of Sherry Pollex. Pollex, a longtime advocate for childhood and ovarian cancer in the NASCAR community, lost her own battle with the disease this weekend. She was 44.

Sherry Pollex was a regular in the garage area. Denny Hamlin knew her as a “staple” in NASCAR. Of course, her charitable and philanthropic works were immense and will help carry on her legacy of advocacy for many years to come.

Hamlin was somber to begin this week’s podcast. He offered his thoughts and prayers to the Pollex family as they go through this difficult time.

“Before we get into the weekend,” Hamlin said. “We want to offer our condolences to Sherry Pollex’s family. You know, she’s been a huge advocate for cancer survivors and those who are battling cancer for so many years now. She’s been a staple in our sport and done a lot of great things for a lot of great causes for many, many years. She unfortunately lost her battle with ovarian cancer, today. So, our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family and everyone who’s helped support her.”

Sherry Pollex was the former partner of Martin Truex Jr. Together they were able to accomplish a lot through the driver’s foundation. When the news broke of her death on Sunday, Truex Jr. released a statement with a heartfelt message.

The loss of Pollex has been felt throughout the NASCAR community. For the better part of two decades, she did her best to make the world better. Most notably, the work she did with the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation. However, to those who knew her personally, the loss is much more than that.

Denny Hamlin joins NASCAR world in remembering Sherry Pollex

After the news came out that Sherry Pollex had passed, the NASCAR world responded with kind messages. Drivers, fans, and NASCAR itself all had great things to say about Pollex. Denny Hamlin was just the latest one to join in.

Here is what NASCAR had to say about Pollex’s life and work.

“NASCAR is saddened to learn of the passing of Sherry Pollex, whose fight against cancer and determination to help others through the Sherry Strong Foundation was an inspiration to all who knew her. NASCAR and the NASCAR Foundation’s thoughts and prayers are with Sherry’s family and friends.”

The Pollex family released a statement. They asked others to join them in celebrating Sherry’s life.

“Please join our family in thanking God for giving us Sherry, she’s such an incredible expression of love that will live on. We will continue her legacy of love and caring for those in need as she will always be alive in our hearts.”

Our thoughts are with the Pollex family and Sherry’s loved ones. It is hard to overstate what her work meant to so many.
