NBA Draft: Jarace Walker Offers Multifaceted NBA Skillset
USA TODAY Sports

With a multifaceted game and premier NBA size, Jarace Walker has cemented himself as a top-ten selection with a solid freshman campaign.

We broke down the freshman Houston forward in the latest video of the Heat Check series:

Averaging 11.1 points per game, Walker is an offensive cog in the Houston machine. But he’s shown enough comfortability in general and upside on-ball to project as a really intriguing selection. There’s a legit pathway to him being a comfortable three-level scorer. But his most likely offensive NBA role will be something similar to what he’s in now with Houston.

To this point, Walker has shown that he’s one of the best defensive players in the 2023 class. He’s versatile, mobile, instinctual, has great footwork and active hands.

He’s averaging over one steal and block per game, has impeccable defensive instincts and is impactful on both the perimeter and interior. Walker is an above-average shot-blocker for his size, and he’s really disruptive and anticipatory when guarding passing lanes.

Outside of his offensive and defensive skills, he has above average passing and playmaking ability for his size and role, and is an elite rebounder.

There are several improvement areas for Walker, namely his perimeter shooting and tightening of his handle, but overall his conglomerate of skills makes for a pretty intriguing 2023 lottery pick.
