Rockets Show Off New San Diego Themed Uniforms
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Even though the Houston Rockets are going through rough times, fans of the team still want to celebrate their crew.

The team has a rich history, including 56 seasons in the league and two championship titles in the 1990s.

Like many other squads in the NBA, the Rockets are now looking forward by looking back.

The team released images of their new Hardwood Classic jerseys, which are based on the franchise’s look from their time in San Diego.

Created in white, green, and yellow, the jerseys are a real throwback – one that dates back to the late 1960s.

The team also released a video that highlighted the team’s past and its future.

There are some fans that weren’t even aware the Rockets once played in California but these jerseys are ready to remind them.

Retro Rockets

The now-Houston Rockets were once the San Diego Rockets.

Back in the 1967 season, the Rockets started in the league with a truly awful record of 15-67.

The team never even hit .500 while stationed in southern California but did have some future stars such as Elvin Hayes and Pat Riley.

In 1971, the team packed up and moved to Houston, where they have been ever since.

Of course, the Rockets have found a lot of success in Texas, including back-to-back Finals victories in 1994 and 1995.

But right now the team is a bit of a mess.

They ended last season as the 15th seed in the West with a 20-62 record and things probably won’t be a lot better this year.

The Rockets will be great again but it might be some time before that happens.

But the fans will stay loyal through it all, and these fantastic throwback jerseys are a great way to do just that.
