The NFL quarterback carousel could be taking another turn.

According to NFL insider Michael Lombardi, the Los Angeles Rams have been offering quarterback Matthew Stafford to teams looking for signal callers.

"I know that the Rams have called teams trying to move Matthew Stafford," Lombardi said in a guest appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."

Stafford, 35, played in nine games last season, throwing for 2,087 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions before landing on Injured Reserve. Trading for him could be a massive risk for a team like the Washington Commanders, who could eye a quarterback in free agency.

Moving Stafford's contract is not an easy one to move. He's guaranteed to make $57 million on the deal even if he doesn't play another down for the team.

The Rams are looking to see if they can get back any compensation to remove themselves from the terrible salary situation they find themselves in.

However, the Rams got their Super Bowl with Stafford, and that's exactly why other teams should be somewhat interested in him.

Granted, injuries slowed him down last year and he could be considering retirement.

Per NBC Sports' Matthew Berry, retiring is "not out of the question" based on what he was told about Stafford at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

"Asking about Matthew Stafford, I was told, 'The guy could barely throw last year. Retirement is still not out of the question,'" Berry said.

There's another scenario where the Rams take on the money penalty and simply cut Stafford, allowing them to hit the reset button and find a new quarterback to build around. In that case, Stafford could be signed to a much more apt contract and the Commanders could be slightly more interested.

Commanders general manager Martin Mayhew was the general manager who drafted Stafford with the No. 1 overall pick in 2009. While he may not be the same player, he's a winner in the NFL and he can provide that championship DNA to the Commanders ... if the price is right.
