Bears Hire Eric Washington as Defensive Coordinator
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears have filled another hole in their coaching staff after former defensive coordinator Alan Williams' departure. According to NFL insider  Tom Pelissero, the Bears are hiring Eric Washington as their new defensive coordinator.

Eric Washington Background

Washington joins the Bears for the second time in his coaching career. He previously served as an assistant coach under Lovie Smith and coached the Bears' defensive line from 2008 to 2010.

Washington brings multiple decades of coaching experience, having worked under the leadership of Sean McDermott and Ron Rivera. He most recently served as the Buffalo Bills' defensive line coach.

Due to his experience, Washington has seen the way NFL defenses have changed over time and can adapt accordingly. Matt Eberflus and Washington now have the opportunity, with help from general manager Ryan Poles, to make the Bears' defense a top-notch unit once again.
