Raiders' Rookies visited Spring Mountain Youth Camp
USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders have made an effort to become involved in the community around them throughout their young tenure in Las Vegas.

That was further proven on Wednesday when the Raiders' 2023 rookie class visited Spring Mountain Youth Camp, a correctional facility, to spend the afternoon with their football team, the Golden Eagles.

Spring Mountain works with roughly 240 young men each year, whose ages range from 12 to 18. Its football team plays in the Class 1A eight-man league of Clark County.

The Raider rookies had lunch with the team and shared their words of wisdom.

"Kids always look up to athletes, and having them tell their journey and their story has made an huge impact," said Cesar Lemos, manager of the youth camp, per an article by Levi Edwards of Raiders.com. "Walking around the dining hall talking to the kids, they're telling me, 'Thank you so much. We appreciate this so much.' And that's what we're trying to do, is try to give our kids opportunities and experiences they never would've had in the environments and situations they come from. Giving them hope and letting them know that people care about them."

The Raiders also donated $15,000 to the football program with a check presented by undrafted free agents Dalton Wagner and McClendon Curtis.

"There's a lot of wisdom that I heard that some of the other rookies have been telling that I'm trying to take and apply to what I want to do," Wagner told the team as he and Curtis prepared to present the check, as heard in a video tweeted by Edwards. "So try to take one thing you learned and apply it, man."

Curtis added on.

"This is going to be a little gift from the Raiders and also the rookie class, and hopefully y'all can put it to use," he said as he flipped over the check to reveal what it entailed.

Wagner is an offensive tackle from Arkansas, while Curtis is an offensive guard from Tennessee-Chattanooga.
