The NFL just announced that former Raiders defensive lineman Carl Nassib will be having quite the honor bestowed upon him. His No. 94 game-worn Raiders jersey is now being displayed at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
The NFL is quite literally more closed than their collegiate sports. Carl Nassib is the first and only National Football League player to come out openly as gay in 2021.
Carl Nassib announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday night following seven seasons with three different teams. Nassib made history in June 2021, becoming the first openly gay active player in the league.
While speaking with reporters Friday, Nassib admitted he was stunned by the massive worldwide reactions to his announcement and added his teammates have been supportive throughout the entire process.
